Classes

With a subscription how many classes can I take?
At least 7 new classes are added every month, providing you access to over 100 classes each month!

How many times can I take each class?
You can take as many classes as you want, as many times as you want.

Where can I take the classes?
Anywhere you like! Once you have subscribed, just log in to any computer, anywhere . . and you will have access to your online classroom.

How are the classes filmed?
You see the “real” classes at Suhaila’s studio. The studio is set up with multiple cameras hidden in the walls so that they don’t disrupt the classroom flow. A film editor simultaneously edits the footage and adjusts camera angles during classes to make sure you have the very best view possible while taking your online class.

Will online classes be the same as taking a class in real life?
We continue our efforts to try and make the online class experience as close to taking a real class as possible. Obviously, there is no substitute for having a class where the teacher can see and correct you personally. But, the cameras follow the teacher around the room; you can watch the teacher correcting other students, listening to see if those corrections might apply to you. Although you take a larger responsibility for paying attention to the instruction and motivating yourself, you see exactly what is taught in real life at Suhaila’s school. For a virtual class, we think you’ll find that taking these classes feels pretty close to being there in person.

How will I know which classes to take?
The class descriptions page features short videos in which Suhaila breaks down what is covered in each level and where to start. We recommend that all students who have not studied with Suhaila, regardless of their previous dance experience, begin with Level 1, Jamila classes, Folkloric Fusion and Dance Movement.

Are there prerequisites for taking certain classes?
If you are not currently in Suhaila’s certification program, all classes except for SSBD Level 3 are available to you. If you are certified Level 1 or above, you may take any classes offered. (Even though we recommend you do not take Level 3 classes until you are proficient in Level 2 material, Level 1 certified students know how to be safe, to modify and to stay in proper alignment in Suhaila’s format.)

How do I know when I should move on to take the next level?
Follow the class description and the rules applied at the “Mothership” studio in Albany.
Recommended:
Level 1 students move on to Level 2 once they understand and can execute Level 1 material (muscle isolations, timing concepts, all movements and foot patterns quartertime and halftime with different downbeats), have completed a full dance movement rotation, and have taken finger cymbal classes (Jamila classes and/or Folkloric Fusion).

CECs

Will classes count toward CECs?
Yes! If you sign up for a one-time payment yearlong subscription you can receive 5 CECs for that year. We assume that if you sign up for a year you are dedicated to really follow through the program and spend sufficient time training.

What if I don’t sign up for a year can I still get CECs?
Only one-time payment yearlong subscriptions can apply to CECs.

So, that means that if I sign up for one year and then sign up again the year after, I can get 10 CECs (half of my CECs required to keep my Suhaila or Jamila Level 1 certification)?
Yes, every year qualifies for 5 .

Will the CECs automatically go into my account?
CECs are not applied automatically. Please follow the same CEC submission process as you would for classes and workshops. Email suhaila@suhailainternational.com stating that you are taking a year of online classes, include your payment receipt, and request that 5 CECs be added to your account.

Payment

How do I pay for online classes?
Payment is handled through Paypal. You select your chosen subscription option and then enter your information into our safe and secure server.

Are there refunds?
If you are curious but not quite sure yet about subscribing to the program, you are welcome to watch the demos and join for a free 3-day trial. Once you sign up, there are no refunds.

Can I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions cannot be cancelled at any time. If a student has an extenuating circumstance (i.e. medical emergency) making them incapable of exercise they may petition for an extension period of no more than 3 months with a submitted doctor’s note. Suhaila will approve this on an individual basis; there is no guarantee of extension. If an extension is granted then the subscription will be postponed and restarted in a period not to extend three months. No subscriptions can be extended any longer than 3 months, and no more than one extension may be applied to a specific subscription.

Technical Questions

Do I need any special equipment or technology to take the class?
You will need a computer and an Internet Browser with Flash installed. For some downloads you will need either Windows Media Player or QuickTime player, but VLC player is our recommended download (download it here). We also recommend you have the Firefox browser (all platforms) as your Internet browser (download it here).
If you would like a yoga mat or a towel for actual exercises you are welcome to use them but they are not required.

What if I have technical issues with the classes?
If you have technical issues with online classroom/website send an email to tech_support@suhailaonlineclasses.com and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
