SSBD Level 2: Fundamentals

SSBD Level 2 trains students in the fundamentals of Suhaila’s format. Students continue their muscle development and body awareness while increasing the precision, efficiency and fluidity of their movements. Belly dance layering concepts are introduced in the warm-up, and foot patterns learned from Dance Movement are layered with all belly dance movements, full, half, and quartertime during drills. Doubletime singles and ¾s are also introduced during the drilling section of class, as well as additional music theory and cymbals.

SSBD Level 2 Covers:

  • Warm up and drill exercises (with an increase in intensity) to promote specific physical strength and muscle development required to belly dance safely and efficiently.

  • Development of the three regions of the gluteus muscle: the maximus, medius and minimus.

  • Layering glute contractions with upper body isolations on the floor.

  • The introduction of arm and hand positions.

  • Combining all belly dance movements with Dance Movement foot patterns (layering of feet with belly dance moves).

  • The addition of fulltime and some doubletime movements.

  • Introduction of pelvic Pyramids and vs as well as ¾ timing and movements.
  • Complex finger cymbal patterns (added in drills).
  • A fun combination including multiple concepts
